The Last Thing to Burn

He is her husband. She is his captive.

Her husband calls her Jane. That is not her name.

She lives in a small farm cottage, surrounded by vast, open fields. Everywhere she looks, there is space. But she is trapped. No one knows how she got to the UK: no one knows she is there. Visitors rarely come to the farm; if they do, she is never seen.

Her husband records her every movement during the day. If he doesn’t like what he sees, she is punished.

For a long time, escape seemed impossible. But now, something has changed. She has a reason to live and a reason to fight. Now, she is watching him, and waiting . . .

Wow!! This book has completely consumed me and been absolutely impossible to put down. I have devoured this book in just hours.

This book introduces us to “Jane” a character that you can’t help but like instantly. This book has so many themes, each intertwined and presented in a way that is sensitive. I can only begin to imagine the hours of research that must’ve gone into this book. Also how the author managed to switch off from the seriousness of this one.

We also meet Lenn, a character who I have found despicable from the very beginning. It makes me sad to think there are real life Lenns out there.

The author takes us on a journey, it is definitely a rollercoaster of emotions. However, I found that I have been completely and utterly captivating. I have devoured page after page, wondering what was coming next.

This is my first read by this author, it’s one of those “twitter made me do it” pre-orders. This book has definitely converted me as a fan and I cannot wait to read more by this author.

This is without a doubt a five star book which I highly recommend. This is going to be one of my top books this year!

Happy reading,
